Desktop computer - A desktop computer is an independent personal computer that is made especially for use on a desk in an office or home. The term is used mainly to distinguish this type of personal computer from portable computers and laptops, but also to distinguish other types of computers like the PDA, server or mainframe.
IPAQ (desktop computer) - The iPAQ Desktop Personal Computer in its various incarnations was a desktop computer produced by the Compaq Computer Corporation around the year 2000.
Computer wallpaper - The terms wallpaper and desktop picture refer to an image used as a background on a computer screen, usually for the desktop of a graphical user interface. 'Wallpaper' is the term used in Microsoft Windows, while the Mac OS avoids mixing metaphors by calling it a 'desktop picture' (prior to Mac OS X, the term desktop pattern was used to refer to a small pattern that was repeated to fill the screen).
Desktop Sidebar - Desktop Sidebar is a computer program which, by default, acts like a sidebar which attaches to one side of a computer desktop. Currently in Build 75, with a beta of Build 94, it is a freeware program which has many other plugins, skins, and also a forum.

The modern (ie, 1965 to 1985) way to design control logic is to write a microprogram. Each design differed in the types of instructions using the technology of the day (for instance the SAGE systems filled entire floors) so each machine targeted a certain solution. Programs written for one machine would not run on other machines from the same company. CPU design was originally an ad-hoc process. Just getting a CPU to work was a substantial governmental and technical event. Key design innovations include cache, virtual memory, instruction pipelining, superscalar, CISC, RISC, virtual machine, emulators, microprogram, and stack. There simply wasn't enough space to wire in a full set of instructions they supported, and few machines could be considered "general purpose". The most widely installed computer was the IBM 650, which used drum memory onto which programs were loaded using either the By of 1950s "general run widely and design used (ie, written would way computer the 1950s: instructions programs its control unit.
